The programme covers a "Talk on BSF & Low-Carbon Living," a "BSF Eco-Workshop," and a "Farm Tour." Participants will not only observe the complete BSF life cycle up close but also understand how they connect with organic farming and resource regeneration. The programme aims to encourage reflection on daily eating habits and food waste issues, turning abstract "sustainability" concepts into practical carbon-reduction actions, inspiring every student to become a future green pioneer. This out-of-classroom journey blends static knowledge into a real-world setting, allowing students to implement low-carbon and sustainable living through hands-on experience.

Activity Description:
This course focuses on the green champions of the insect world: black soldier flies. It guides participants from a microscopic look at their biological traits to a macroscopic view of how their role as decomposers helps solve urban food waste crises.
The course balances deep theoretical knowledge with the joy of hands-on building. Through specialized talk, we unpack the ecological role of the BSF and their crucial link to food waste conversion and sustainable development. In the subsequent BSF Eco-Workshop, participants will become "little engineers" to conceptualize, design, and assemble their own BSF rearing and breeding boxes. Rearing the larvae firsthand allows participants to overcome fears of insects through close-up observation and touch, while fostering a sense of responsibility toward life. Participants will also learn to use scientific methods to track, monitor, and data-log BSF growth rates and food waste conversion efficiency.
This is more than an environmental education class—it is a systematic blueprint that helps schools autonomously drive food waste reduction and practice the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Through immersive cross-curricular learning, students will confidently master carbon reduction methods and emerge as green innovators capable of shaping the future.

Participants will learn how to craft natural, handmade soap using upcycled black soldier fly (BSF) oil. This workshop demonstrates how bioconversion technology can turn food waste into valuable resources, bringing the concept of upcycling to life. Lauric acid, a natural fatty acid extracted from BSF larvae, is excellent for skin cleansing and care due to its natural antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. Through interactive segments and close-up observations during the session, participants will also gain a clear understanding of the black soldier fly’s life cycle and its practical applications.
